College Application

Most people fly economy. Most people cook their own dinner.  Most people don't rule the world. I am not like most people. I fly around the world with my own wings. I cook four star meals in a two star kitchen. I rule the world.  My parents thank me for being their child. People thank me for being in there presence. Countries thank me for stepping foot on their land. At 3 days I was classified as the smartest person in the world. By the age of 2 I won 9 gold medals in Olympic diving. At 7 years old I won a Nobel peace prize. I helped BeyoncĂ© become queen of pop. I taught Ellen DeGeneres how to be funny. I showed Obama how to be president. I showed Queen Elizabeth the etiquettes of being Queen.

I walk into the gym. All I can see is rows of desks filled with nervous students waiting to get this exam over with. I go and sit in the back corner of the room, trying to hide hoping nobody will notice me.  I feel the regret settling in my stomach.  I tap my toes against the wooden gym floor, silently hoping for a miracle. I can’t help but get mad at myself. Why didn’t I wake up those early morning and show up to class? I have absolutely no clue on what is going to be on this exam. I see the exams being passed down; I can hear the clicking of the pencils as each student begins to write their exam. I finally get my exam. I took a deep breath and opened up my exam. I didn’t know where to start. I flipped each page hoping I knew something but page after page it all looked like a foreign language to me. My stomach dropped, I was so disappointed with myself.  I could hear the scratching of the pencil on paper as other students were scrambling to finish their exam. I wished that was me, I wish I did make an effort to go to class. I started with the multiple choice. Guess after guess, I was hoping that maybe at least one or two would be right. I then go onto the short answers and I see students leaving. My heart starts racing. “I haven’ t even finished half of this exam how am I ever going to get this done.”

Ashley Wylde in her poem "Meet Yourself in the Mirror" describes how you truly can't love something else until you love yourself. We show our love to so many different things but most people go through a lifetime before saying they love themselves.

Writing Dialogue

As I shuffled into the classroom, I knew that Mr. Van Camp would never believe me. I looked at my scuffed shoes and mumbled, " My homework is not done, Sir. I do have a good excuse though."

" This is not the first time your homework has not been completed. Perhaps," Mr. Van Camp suggested, "it's time to speak with your parents."

"Please, you have no idea what will happen to me if you phone my home," I moaned. It looked as if he was going to fall for my story.

"Well, let's hear your excuse. It better be good."

"You see Mr.Van Camp" stated Harnish, "Friday was Halloween and what student does homework on Halloween?"

"Okay, but what about the other two days?"

"Well, on Saturday I decided I wanted to be adventurous. So I drove to Kelowna and we adventured the outskirts of town." stated Harnish.

"Okay, so I understand that Friday was Halloween and on Saturday you went on an adventure but you still had all of Sunday."

Harnish sighed, "The thing is Mr. Van Camp, while on an adventure Saturday, my friend got bit by a snake. So, I spent all of Sunday with her in the hospital."

"I am so sorry, Harnish." Mr. Van Camp stated, "I hope your friend is alright."

"She's fine. She just needs a bit of rest." Harnish stated.

"I'll let your homework slide this time, but if this happens again I will make sure to call your parents."

Harnish sighed with relief, "Thank you sir, I will promise you this will never happen again!"

"The worst thing about being lied to is knowing you weren't worth the truth'".  Gabriella felt that she wasn't worth the truth when Liam from the short story "Bluffing" by Gail Helgason lied to her about running away from the bear. Gabriella being a biology teacher knew how to react if an animal came in sight. The first time Gabriella and Liam encountered wildlife Gabriella knew that the moose "sens[ed] danger" and instructed Liam on what to do. But when the bear came towards Gabriella "she yearned to turn... but some inner force held her" a force that Liam did not have and his first instinct was to run. Gabriella was also worried about Liam making a commitment to her. Liam told Clive "to go to hell" but then ended up making plans to spend the next three months with him, maybe realizing that Gabriella wanted to sign the lease with him and he wasn't ready to make the commitment. Liam may have thought that if the bear had attacked her instead of him that he would never have to make an excuse on why he didn't want to sign the lease. Also planning on going to the lake himself, Liam told some young men "in their late teens or early twenties" that it wasn't "a good idea" and that some grizzly's were out to kill. If Liam could lie to complete strangers he could lie to her as well. Therefore, the coward Liam is, he lied to Gabriella about trying to save her life when really he was trying to escape a long term commitment.

"Apperances aren't everything". Her face aged with everything she's been through. The creases around her eyes similar to an un ironed shirt. She began smoking at the age of 18 to help deal with the struggles she has faced. Smoking has been her only escape. She holds the cigarrate with some arrogance; not because she feels as if she is on top of the world but because she doesn't want the world to see the fear in her eyes. The world see's her at a cocky old lady who is slowly killing her lungs. Nobody stoping for a second to find out what her story is. Sitting at the bus stop, the smoke is the only thing keeping her warm. People rushing and racing not stoping to take a second glance. Hoping that someone, someday will stop and show her a better day, she waits. Inhaling the smoke once again she waits for someone to take her back to her younger days. The days with no problems or regrets. She lones to be a kid again and laugh at the childish things. She lones to go back to the days when she didn't have to hide the struggles on her face.
